Plasmodium. It’s not a T.V., it is a killer. It’s the micro-organism that causes malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. This deadly problem has an easy solution—nets. A $10 donation to Nothing But Nets goes directly toward the purchase, distribution, and education on use of an insecticide-treated bed nets. The People of the United Methodist Church in Salida are partnering with the Salida Soccer Board to bring you the opportunity to help. Beginning September 11th and going through October 9th you’ll be able to contribute to Nothing But Nets while you enjoy a soccer game here in Salida, just find the red shirt volunteer and get a self-addressed return envelope to send in your donation and if you don’t attend soccer games don’t worry, you can help too, just stop by the Methodist Church on 4th and D streets, pick up your envelope or drop off your donation. Remember, it only costs $10 to help prevent this deadly disease and save a life. The Arkansas Valley Music and Dance sponsors ‘The Salida Contra Dance’ once a month at the Scout Hut in Riverside Park from 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Come alone, with a friend, or with the whole family and enjoy the foot-stompin’ live music of Andrea Earley Coen and Seth Roberts and the calling by Eleanor Fahrney. A dessert potluck takes place at the break and slightly harder dances later in the evening. There is a suggested fee to participate but no one is turned away. They and their volunteers help the elderly, disabled or chronically ill to get where you need to go. There is a small fee for the service. Heaven’s Gateway Horse Rescue needs volunteers. No experience required, if you like horses and are willing to clean, groom, or set fences they could use you.
