Volume 2
The public is invited to any kHEN meetings.
· The kHEN Board meets every third Tuesday of the month at 6pm at the Salida Regional Library in the downstairs meeting room.
· The kHEN Programming Committee meets the first and third Tuesday of the month at the kHEN Station.
· The Fundraising Committee meets every Monday for now. Many fundraisers are going on and we need lots of help and updates.
If anyone would like to lend their talents in any of these committees, please feel free to attend. We need help especially in Marketing and Fundraising.

What’s up in the Coop
We have lots of exciting FUNdraisers happening here at kHEN.
· We send a big fat THANKS out to everyone who donated time and bought tickets to the Halloween Bash. We all had a great time and made some money to cover our operating expenses and keep kHEN on the air.
· We have an Early Bird Membership drive going on now. We will have our On-Air Membership drive from Nov 14th thru Nov 21st. We need lots of help with answering phones and talking with DJs on the air about kHEN and Community Radio. If any of you can volunteer a little more time during our On-Air drive, it will make it easier on all of us. Please check out the sign up sheet at the station for times still available. We also have a few shows that are now run by Big Bird, if you can take on another hour or two on the air, please see Teresa for what’s available.
· We have another special event coming up in Nov. A very special kHEN Presents: Boulder Acoustic Society and the band Wiyos will be performing at the SteamPlant on Nov 20th, with a VIP Party at Bongo Billy’s Salida Café before the show. We will need a few volunteers for this event, so please attend the Fundraising Committee meeting if you can help.

Come out and get together with kHEN’s DJs and volunteers at the next Potluck! KHEN’s November Potluck is going to be hosted by Terry and Tari Warham Look for an invitation in your mailbox at the studio.

Welcome to the first Chicken Scratch newsletter! I’m Teresa Koransky, the Station Coordinator, but kHEN is all about YOU, the volunteers (Peeps!). YOU are the most important factor here and for this Community Radio Station. YOU make it what it is: Community. I’m just here to keep the peeps moving in a direction best for the coop… and shovel up the manure.

What’s up in the Coop
This newsletter is intended to increase some of the communication between the kHEN board, DJs and other volunteers. We’ll let you know what’s coming up with Fundraisers and Memberships drives and how you can help to make these things happen. We’ve got our annual Halloween Bash at Bongo’s coming up soon and a very special gig with Boulder Acoustic Society in November. Details coming soon!

Walking on Eggshells
With elections coming up, those DJs that include interviews on your show need to be aware of a few FCC political guidelines. We need to remain non-partisan. If we interview a candidate from one party, we need to offer the opposing party equal time. Because of this, we need to document a few of the details for the interview, time, show, etc. Jane has put together a form to make it easier to keep up with such stuff. Just ask Jane or Teresa for a copy of the form before your interview and we can leave it in your mailbox. Also, please be careful about noting your sources when stating “facts” on your show. Also be sure to read the disclaimer about this being “an opinion and not the views…etc.”. We don’t want to ruffle too many feathers.

Fluff and Stuff
Hey, we also need to have fun! I know you’re not at kHEN for the MONEY, so let’s have some FUN! We’ve had a couple of great summer potluck parties but I feel we’re due for another one. Is anyone out there ready to host a potluck? It’s not hard; just ask anyone who’s had one. Ask Teresa for a layout for the invitations we’ve used before or make up your own. If you have any other FUN ideas, let me know.

Joining the Flock
I’ve talked to a few of the DJs about helping deal with new music coming in. C’mon, we’re a RADIO STATION; music is what it’s all about! Alex Young is joining the flock to preview some of the new music for Genre, recording quality, is the music any good, etc. He’s gonna need lots of help! He’s also agreed to tackle the HUGE job of ripping all the CDs in the library into Big Bird. We’re not getting rid of the CDs, but we do want to give our computerized playlists a deeper pool to draw from. Look for a DJ meeting to be announced soon to work out the finer details of this.
